No. If you
receive a call and decide not to accept an
assignment, you are not penalized for it.
However, if you commit to an assignment, we
expect that you are there.

pay I receive when I accept an assignment? |
Yes, you
will be given the pay rate of the school district
when you accept the assignment.

| What is the
daily pay for substitute teaching? |
Each school
district has their daily pay rate; A+ Teachers
pays the rate set by the school district.

Bachelor’s Degree, can I qualify to be a substitute
teacher? |
Yes, you can
obtain an emergency permit. You need to
provide a variety of documents, and we assist
you in providing them to a school district or the
Capital Area Intermediate Unit. We encourage
you to attend the Guest Teachers Training Program
at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit that serves
Dauphin and Cumberland Counties’ school districts.

Emergency Permit? |
An Emergency
Permit allows a person with a Bachelor's Degree
without a Teaching Certification to be a
substitute teacher. An emergency permit is issued
by the Department of Education.

| Can I apply for
directly for an Emergency Permit? |
No. A school
district or intermediate unit must apply for the emergency permit.
|

| What is a Guest
Teacher? |
This is a term used
for substitute teachers that hold a Bachelor’s
Degree and no teaching certification. After you
receive your emergency permit, you will be known
as a Guest Teacher.

| If I have an
Emergency Permit, what subject area can I substitute
teach? |
You may
substitute teach in any subject area as a
day-to-day Substitute Teacher in
one classroom up to 15 days.

| May I use the
transcript of my Master’s Degree? |
No, the Bureau of Teacher Certification and
Preparation requires a Bachelor’s Degree.

| Will I have
access to a Support Group? |
Yes, monthly
meetings will provide the opportunity to converse and share
experiences among your A+ Teachers' colleagues. This
is great way to enhance your substitute teaching
experience.

| What if I
want to work only few days a week? |
Substitute
teaching offers a flexible schedule. During your
interview, please
provide us with your schedule, so we know what
days you are available.
|

| If I’m a
graduate with a teacher’s certification can I apply for
a teaching position? |
When a
position is available in the school district, you
may apply. This will be beneficial to you since
the school knows your teaching performance and
could provide you a greater chance for an interview. There
will be no obligations to A+ Teachers if
you accept a teaching position. We wish you
success in your teaching career.
